The Kuhn Rikon Ratchet Grater is like no other design that you’ve come across. It’s made to be easier on your wrists and hands so the chances of getting callouses and aching wrists is minimal.
Instead of rotating the handle to grate cheese or stroking it up and down and risking the chance of grating bits of your skin and flesh on your fingers off, this grater works by moving the handle back and forth or side to side depending on how you hold it.
Shaped like the letter ‘L’ or almost like a pistol without the trigger, each end has its own feature. On top is where the handle is and on the other end is a spring loaded door for the cheese to go in.
Cheese is held in place with the plate at the end of the spring. A big lump can fit in here thanks to the spring. Conveniently, the length of the spring stopper acts as a marker to show you how much cheese you have left to grate.
Moving the handle in a pull and push motion is pretty comfortable as the handle is designed with a large round ball making it easy to grip onto. To make the horrible chore of washing up easier, the pieces can be easily removed and it can be thrown into the top rack of the dishwasher if you’re lucky enough to own one.
The Ratchet Grater can grate more than just cheese as is the standard with many graters. You can take nuts, chocolate or root vegetables to it and it does the job swiftly with ease. It’s so much easier on your hands and wrists compared to using standard cheese graters which makes it ideal for people with limited dexterity.
